Intermed Gateways, in cooperation with the Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat, will organize the first Mediterranean Ports Forum bringing together around 100 participants from the Euro-Mediterranean national port authorities, experts and other stakeholders to promote maritime transport in the Mediterranean and thereby emphasizing its major role as a strategic node for all maritime roads. The Mediterranean Ports Forum pursues two main objectives. Cooperation and Business Development in the Mediterranean, as the success of the one depends on the success of the other: That is why, Intermed gateways and the Union for the Mediterranean have a clear and great common interest to organize this forum. The Mediterranean Ports Forum, as a platform gathering the Mediterranean ports, is aimed at creating opportunities for the participants to exchange ideas on maritime transport and logistics related topics. Indeed, it will be a unique opportunity to learn from each other’s experience through the exchange of best practices, as well as explore the possibility of creating a specific and dedicated body to promote Mediterranean Ports.
“The development of motorways of the sea, including the connection of ports, throughout the entire Mediterranean basin will increase the flow and freedom of the movement of people and goods” as stated in the Joint Declaration of the Paris Summit of Euro-Mediterranean Heads of State and Government in 2008 that established the Union for the Mediterranean.
The Forum will seek to foster the development of trade lines between the European Transport Network and other Mediterranean Countries with the objective of promoting shipping and transport and logistics connections between the Euro-Mediterranean area and emerging economies across the globe. Furthermore, it embodies the challenge to enhance shipping development in the Mediterranean and to position itself as a specialized reference for the sector.
In conclusion of the Forum, we aim at confirming the interest of participants to continue the cooperation and propose a roadmap to this effect.
